Gamma Medica · Model LumaGem
Dedicated MBI gamma camera The LumaGEM MBI System is the first commercially available, FDA cleared, planar, dual head, fully solid state digital imaging system utilizing cadmium zinc telluride (CZT) technology used for breast imaging. LumaGEM benefits from proprietary Gamma Medica-Industrial Imaging Division Application Specific Integrated Circuits (ASICs) to achieve the next-generation of imaging performance. Molecular Breast Imaging (MBI) is a new technology used for breast imaging. MBI identifies tumors in dense breast tissue that are often not visible with X-ray based analog or digital mammography. While conventional analog gamma cameras are limited to poor intrinsic spatial resolution of 3-4 mm, LumaGEM delivers scans with a groundbreaking 1.6 mm intrinsic resolution, and while other breast specific gamma cameras (BSGI) deliver only 10% FWHM energy resolution (typically as bad as 15% FWHM) LumaGEM delivers 4.5% FWHM energy resolution, the best in the industry. LumaGEM is available in single or dual head configuration, matching your clinical needs to your facility’s budget.
Failure patterns typical of this equipment class - general BMET reference, not verified against this exact unit's own service history unless flagged. Severity is a category-level estimate.
Symptoms: Tube won't fire, heat-capacity alarm.
Root cause: Filament wear, cooling failure.
Symptoms: Image noise, artifacts, low SNR.
Root cause: Flat-panel / sensor aging.
Symptoms: Exposure fails, kV/mA out of range error.
Root cause: HV tank or generator board fault.
Symptoms: Frozen console, acquisition timeout.
Root cause: Workstation or RAID degradation.
The parts a BMET typically services on this class of equipment. Service class and relative cost are general engineering estimates for the category, not figures from this unit's documentation. Part numbers appear only when pulled from this unit's own service manual. Always confirm intervals and pricing against the manufacturer.
| Part | Service class | Relative cost | R&R difficulty |
|---|---|---|---|
| Flat-panel detector | Major service part | $$$$ | Expert-level |
| Cooling pump & radiator | Periodic replacement | $$$ | Difficult |
| High-voltage generator | Major service part | $$$$ | Expert-level |
| Workstation RAID / GPU | Periodic replacement | $$$ | Difficult |
Relative cost: $ lowest · $$$$ highest service-part cost for this equipment class. Not a price.
